Well, friends. Here we are. October 2026. And somehow, the book I announced nearly two years ago is becoming a real thing.
A real book. With a title. A publisher. A publication date. And pages and pages of my very personal business. Ha!
More Than Your Job: Four Practices for Keeping Your Identity Bigger Than Your Career is coming in June 2027 from Berrett-Koehler Publishers!
When I first shared that I was writing this book, I described it as an exploration of how to develop a healthier relationship with ambition. That is still very much at its heart. But as the manuscript has taken shape, I’ve realized that what I’m really writing about is something even bigger.
How do we pursue the lives we want without losing ourselves in the process?
Because somewhere along the way, so many of us learned to measure our worth by what we accomplish. The titles we earn. The rooms we enter. The goals we reach. And sometimes, without even realizing it, we begin to build lives that look wonderful from the outside but leave very little room for the people we are outside of our work.
I know a little something about that.
In 2024, I quit my job. I started a business. I traveled to Greece. I spent more time with my family. And I began the sometimes uncomfortable work of untangling who I was from what I did.
What I didn’t know then was just how much more I had to learn.
And gosh, have I learned.
Since then, I’ve stepped back into executive leadership, continued building my own creative work, and spent a whole lot of time thinking about what it means to be ambitious without making ambition the center of your identity.
Because here’s the thing: I still love ambition. I love big ideas. I love meaningful work. I love the possibility of becoming someone I haven’t yet imagined.
I just no longer believe that pursuing those things should require us to abandon ourselves.
I’m now working through feedback on the first full manuscript, and I can’t quite describe what it feels like to have other people read something that began as a collection of hard-earned lessons, questions, and hopes.
My greatest hope is that this book finds people at every stage of their careers. The ones just getting started. The ones climbing. The ones questioning. The ones starting over. And the ones wondering whether there might be more to life than the version of success they’ve spent years pursuing.
Because there is. There really is.
I’ll be sharing more about the book, the ideas behind it, and everything I’m learning along the way over at my Substack, What If It All Works Out? I’d love for you to join me there: whatifitallworksout.substack.com
More to come, friends. And thank you to everyone who has encouraged me along the way.
More Than Your Job. Coming June 2027.
